General information

Norway is part of the Nord European power market, and all Norwegian suppliers purchase electricity at the Nordic power exchange Nord Pool Spot. It is the grid companies and power producers who work on electricity production, water reservoir levels, exports abroad, or power cables. The electricity produced is bought and sold at Nord Pool Spot, where the price is determined by supply and demand. A surplus of electricity in the market leads to lower prices, while high demand will result in price increases. In other words, the final price of electricity will fluctuate in line with fluctuations on the power exchange.

Changing electricity supplier

If you wish to switch electricity suppliers, this can be easily done by contacting the supplier you want to enter into an agreement with. However, sometimes this can also pose a challenge. After all, there are many electricity suppliers in Norway, and just as many different electricity agreements. Therefore, the Consumer Council has established the "Strømpris" service to make it easier for you as a customer to find out who can provide an electricity agreement for your electricity meter, and at the same time, get a better overview of which agreement will be the best for you. You can use the service by visiting the website: https://www.strompris.no/

Product declaration

// Placeholder from EnergiNorge.no (https://www.energinorge.no/tal... ) // Link directly to NVE? https://www.nve.no/energiforsy... The product declaration by NVE is based on an overview of electricity purchases with and without guarantees of origin. It shows how the electricity is produced on average for customers who have chosen not to purchase guarantees of origin. The calculation is made by summing up Norwegian, renewable production and subtracting net sold guarantees of origin. This share is replaced with the so-called 'average European production mix' – which will be a mixture of renewable, fossil, and nuclear power. The product declaration does not indicate what is physically delivered to your power outlet.
