All customers must select an electricity supplier. If you don't choose one within 6 weeks, you'll automatically be placed on an agreement called "mandatory supply." The terms of this agreement are often expensive compared to other electricity suppliers. Therefore, we recommend selecting an electricity supplier as soon as possible.

It is free of charge to switch electricity suppliers. The grid company should facilitate customers' supplier changes.

We recommend visiting the Consumer Council's website strompris.no. Here, you can compare offers from different electricity suppliers that can deliver to your address.

Please contact the electricity supplier you prefer as soon as possible and remember to have the following information available when ordering an electricity supply agreement:

  • Meter Point ID (you can find this on your invoice)
  • Date of birth or Organization number
  • Name or company name

Mandatory Supply

Customers who have not entered into an agreement with an electricity supplier will receive mandatory supply electricity from their grid company. This is mandated by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE).

This arrangement is meant to be a temporary solution, so the price of mandatory supply electricity from the grid company is higher than what an electricity supplier could offer you. After 6 weeks, the grid company is required to further increase the surcharge to encourage customers to choose their own electricity supplier. Therefore, it will be beneficial for you to establish a new electricity agreement with an electricity supplier as soon as possible.
